Dave's Progress. Chapter 17: So Here It Is...Again.

So, Christmas-time is here again and I repeat the same question I asked last year- so here it is, Merry Christmas, every body's havin' fun. Or are they?
Christmas can be a great time for children, but let's face it, by the time you become an adult the novelty has definitely worn off. All that effort buying presents in the packed shopping malls. All those relatives coming round who you don't particularly like. And don't forget, the absolute absence of the original message of Christmas which has been replaced by mindless materialism. The closest we probably get to that is playing John Lennon's "And so this is Christmas, and what have you done?"
Also, it can be one of the most difficult times for those who have experienced mental distress. Our old friends isolation and social exclusion can be felt more acutely at around this time. And for those who aren't isolated, just the damn stress of the whole thing is enough to send you into a relapse.
So, as the big day approaches I would just like to take the opportunity in this short blog to say Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all who know me, and also to those who don't. But particular thanks to klahanie and dcrelief who continue to comment on and read my blog. Have a great Christmas, guys! (and girls!).

I've begun reading your archives again and hope to catch up with all of your adventures.

I basically came by to make sure you are still breathing. Due to lack of interest next Christmas is being canceled.
Actually I was wondering if there'd been any progress for a chapter 18? If not I can loan you a chapter 27 from a biography I'm doing right now.
Okay, I'll leave quietly.

Dear readers, I've been thinking about writing another blog for a long time now, but with Christmas and the New Year and the inevitable whoop and wharf I've been finding it rather difficult . You could say I lack the drive to positively engage with my blog. You could say I feel a little lacklustre. You could say, as klahanie , a friend of mine in cyberworld , once did, "I was going to write a blog about apathy, but then felt that I just couldn't be bothered." So, what is it with these feelings of withdrawal, lack of any seeming enthusiasm and what I feel is an inability to feel. When I was growing up in Stoke, the reputation of our local psychiatric hospital took on almost mythic qualities. Based in Cheddleton, the St.Edward's hospital was the subject of many, possibly apocryphal, stories, and whenever anyone would act a little "crazy", people would always say "be careful, you'll end up at Cheddleton". The remark was usually delivered in a derisory or humorous fashion, and what it made clear was that those who actually did find themselves "at Cheddleton" were separate from the rest of us. "They" were the insane, while we were, to quote Foucault, shining examples of "a reason sure of itself". So, the element of stigma was clear. The inmates of St.Edward's weren't like us.
