A Versatile Blog.
So, my good friend Gary, at his site klahanie, has seen fit to pass on "The Versatile Blogger" award to me. There are various rules attached to accepting this ward, but being a little bit of a non-conformist, I'm not going to adhere to them. Suffice it to say that I thank Gary wholeheartedly for thinking of me (once again).
Gary has also passed this award on to a number of other bloggers, all of which blog about the subject of mental ill health. Gary has done this to further raise awareness of the many issues surrounding mental illness, and to attempt to reduce the stigma which continues to problematise the lives of many.
But, as this is "The Versatile Blogger" award, perhaps I'll just say that my blog does attempt to cover other subjects as well as mental ill health, the main purpose of this being to show that those with a diagnosis of mental illness are not defined by their experience of such conditions, but are rather so much more than any label can encapsulate. With people often being referred to solely in relation to their illness, it falls upon people like me and Gary to show that there are thinking, feeling human beings behind all the stereotypes.
So, I'll just say thank you to Gary once again, and hope that, in some small way, both our blogs, and the others mentioned by Gary on his site, can get beyond the labels and narrow definitions often imposed on those with experience of mental ill health, and show that it is time that mental illness shed its taboo identity.

I get irritated by claims like "Just me and my madcap world and random thoughts" and then it turns out to be dozens of pictures of grandchildren on the beach! OK, rant over.

My rebellious friend, you know that I endeavour to forward on awards in hopes of bringing further awareness of others.
Indeed, you versatile guy, you have demonstrated that your blog is all about variety. You articulately display that you are so much more than any of your mental health concerns.
Congrats to you and we both continue on and along with those others I mentioned, do our best to bring further awareness to eradicate the unfair stigma and labels.
Have a peaceful, positive weekend and thank you for the phone call earlier in the week.
With respect and admiration, Gary
Thank you, and I'm glad that my blog seems to stand out for you as one of the few which is really about what it says it's about. So, this will never be "just me and my madcap world and random thoughts", but shall remain "the passing thoughts of your normal, average delusional and paranoid man"!
Very Best Wishes,
David.
Oh, I'm positively overflowing with positivity now that I've read your comment. But seriously, I thank you sincerely for always thinking of promoting my little blog, and one does hope that we both have had some impact in reducing stigma.
It's always a pleasure to speak with you, Gare, so I too wish you a peaceful and positve week, nay life!
Very Best Wishes, and some cute, little furry things, your way,
David.
Congratulations! Very well deserved!
Your blog has encouraged me to continue exhibiting the right attitude toward others. Whether they are mentally or physically challenged, or deemed 'the normal of society,' the attitude I bring to the table can be a bridge.
Thank you for writing and sharing your, "Day in the Life...".
Continued success,
Dixie
